Laid back Newborn Photos | San Clemente, CA

beautiful tired mama with newborn baby nap snuggles

I’ve known Heather a long time. I’m privileged to call her a friend. She’s been such a faith leader for me--fearlessly loving God and inviting me to do the same. Many friends from high school fade away, but I’m so blessed to have experienced the confusing college years, through marriage and now motherhood with Heather. When you go through life with someone, yes, it might make you feel old. But it also truly makes you reflect on what’s important and what’s truly worth cherishing.

What a beautiful thing it is to photograph your friend falling more in love with their soulmate. What a tear-jerking thing it is to capture your friend falling in love with her baby, seeing their family grow closer together. Granted, I was only 4 months postpartum when I got to meet baby James and capture some of the Pruitt family’s first moments at home as a family of 3, so maybe I was a bit more emotional than usual. Who am I kidding? These newborn photoshoots make me cry no matter what.

I remember falling so much deeper in love with my husband as he supported me through pregnancy, labor, and delivery. And then seeing him hold our daughter for the first time made my heart burst even more. Now everytime, I see that in others, my heart feels so much joy for them and I just say, “God, thank you for this work. Thank you for allowing me to be a witness to this right here.”

She always was someone who was always doing something for someone else and it’s no surprise she is the best mama to James and wife to Ian. To see Heather so effortlessly flow into motherhood has been such a gift and such an inspiration. Here are a few of my favorite shots from their laid back newborn photoshoot
